Sail, Hike and Wild Camp - Wild North Norfolk Coast

Join Former Royal Marine Commandos Ian Finch and Henry Chamberlains Coastal Exploration Co on this bespoke two day sailing and hiking journey along the wild North Norfolk Coastline - Planned to give you unique and adventurous insight into the hidden creeks, salt marshes and countryside of North Norfolk. This journey is exclusive to Walk Wild and will not be found anywhere else in the UK.

Using 1950's restored wooden crabbing boats by Henry Chamberlain (Coastal Exploration Company), we'll access the lesser known areas of the Norfolk marshland home to rare wildlife sailing under red canvas sail. After sleeping under a canvas cover and on board the deck of “The Salford” boat (moored in Wells) on the Friday night, we’ll deploy on the morning tide deep into the marsh where we’ll cook breakfast, wild swim and enjoy coffee and tea. After deploying from boat to land, we’ll either spend the day traversing from Blakeney Point dunes or the Norfolk Coastal Path onto the mainland or inland via Stiffkey Marshes and the Norfolk Coast Path. The 8 or 11 mile hike will take us into a secret and private wild camp location deep in the Stiffkey countryside where we'll settle tents, and boil stoves for evening meals. To catch the morning tides, the route will have to be done in reverse, catching the early dawn light and using a similar route to the day before. Timing is key as we’ll have to rendevouz with the boat and skipper deep in the salt marsh near Stiffkey. From there we’ll use the tide to sail back to Wells on Sea using the narrow channels in the salt marsh.

Start: 7pm Wells next to the Sea, Norfolk on the Friday of the expedition

Finish: 12 noon - 1:30pm Wells Next to the Sea - On the Sunday of the expedition

Food: Cooked breakfast included both days

Difficulty level: Intermideiate

Distance of hiking: Day 1 - 9 miles / Day 2 - 3 miles

Two Day Cotswolds Wild Camping (Copy)

Join us on this two day immersive and secret Cotswolds Winter Wild Camp with former Royal Marine Commando, Expedition Leader and photographer Ian Finch.

The first days walk will take in the high views over the Severn Estuary while hand railing Norman forts and time worn Cotswolds valleys. The day will conclude with tents being pitched in a secret location on a lone hill while bubbling stoves heat water for our evening camp food. This will all take place on the apex of a secluded "hidden hill" over looking valley life below. During the weekend we'll discuss subjects like natural navigation, reading & understanding a map and its signs, planning solo/joint trips, weather patterns, camp craft and how to read the landscape.

Day two starts with tea or coffee around the tents followed by a walk up onto the high ground then into the valley town for a short rest, cafe breakfast and hot drinks. We then head up into the forested hilltops to follow long ascending and descending woodland trails, walking through thick forested tree lines and densely packed natural areas. The long loop finishes as we cross beautiful lowland fields returning back to our secluded village.

  • Start: 12 noon on Day 1 at secret Cotswolds village location (provided on booking)

  • Finish: Between 2-3pm Day 2

  • Free Parking Available

  • Nearest Train Station - 3 miles from Start location

  • Equipment Hire Available

  • Distance covered over weekend 18 miles (29km)

  • Difficulty rating: intermediate

  • Fitness level required: Fair/good

  • Hiking experience with pack desired
